Did you set New Year’s resolutions for 2025? We are now in February and past the point where we tried and already quit. Now what?

Something I like to do that allows us to make goals throughout the year and not just for the New Year is intentions. Setting goals happens to be the easy part. However, the hard part is achieving them.

A goal is defined as something we desire to achieve (at an end) with acts along the way that help us reach this end state. This is typically not the path of least resistance, it is a much harder path that requires willpower and knowledge on how to do this.

As stated above, reaching a goal is hard and takes time. We like to think that we need to be successful in January or else we will not reach that goal. This is why I like to set intentions, they can happen at anytime.

What is an intention? Intentions are set mindfully usually with a clear plan toward something that we really want and that will make us happy. When we think of setting an intention we are doing this with our minds so that we believe we can achieve the end state of the intention.

How to set your intentions.

  1. Be Clear

This is where you answer questions like: What makes me happy? What do I want in life? What truly matters? Use positive language and empowering statement starters like: “I will,” “I choose,” or “I am.”

  • Keep it simple

Be descriptive but concise. When you add more than you need, this can cloud your true intention. This is a journey that will take time and you need it to be clear an simple to stick with it until the end.

  • Affirm your intentions often

Add affirming your intentions to your daily routine. This will help you align your actions with your intention and allow you to keep on track with your intention. You can do this by writing it down in a journal, saying it to yourself, and reflecting at the end of the day.

  • Reflect and Adjust

You may already be doing this daily with affirming, but sometimes, you need to reflect on the whole journey. Take time to think about where you started, what your initial intention is and are you still on track to reaching the end state. If you are, great! If not, that is okay, take this time to adjust accordingly. Be clear and keep it simple.

Intention Examples

Start with the positive “I will,” “I intend to,” “I choose,” or “I enjoy.” Or any statement starter that empowers you and is for you.

  • For Self-Love
  • For the Day
  • For mindfulness
  • For Health and Wellness

Conclusion

You can set an intention at any time, not just for the New Year. Your intentions can be for any aspect of your life and as simple as something like “I choose to be happy today.” Make sure you make it clear, simple, take time to affirm your intention, and reflect often. All of these steps will help you stay on track and reach the end state of your intention.
